I woke up to 2 small black rice shaped bits on the counter but nowhere else. I thought it was mouse droppings?

but thats all there was. The next day I woke to 3 of the same thing. I would've thought if I had mice their droppings would be everywhere but I only had 2 one night and 3 the next. Is it possible I have mice and if I do why aren't there any more droppings around?
